The Last Minute Phone Call

Day: Friday 8th April 2005
Time: 4.45 pm

The Don: Darling, is it too late to apply leave for Monday?
Mrs Don: Leave? Why? What's on Monday?
The Don: I was thinking.. since my meeting is on Monday afternoon, why don't u come along with me to KL tomorrow then maybe we can squeeze in Genting on Sunday or Monday morning ?
Mrs Don: Really?? (big grin) Then wat about the BBQ on Saturday?
The Don: It's ok. After the bbq, we leave straightaway for KL.
Mrs Don: YAHOOOO!!!!!!!!

The initial plan was only for The Don to go to KL to meet his prospective Malaysian business counterparts but I ended up tagging along as well. The eventual drive to KL only happened on Sunday morning due to the BBQ ending later than we planned. (officially ended at East Coast at midnight but for the rest of us it unofficially ended at 3am Sunday hehe)

The drive up to Genting was much steeper and much more dangerous than I remember. We decided against taking the cable car and drove up all the way to the peak and The Don had to negotiate corners like this one....

We spent almost the entire Monday morning at the Outdoor Theme Park. While some of the rides were pretty lame(dun bother with the unconvincing space simulator!), the roller coasters were quite fun. We sure had a helluva time on the double loop roller coasters (and we sat in the front!!!)

We had so much fun The Don was even late for his 3pm meeting but he didn't seem to mind the slightest bit. And thanks to our cousins Abg Wan n Kak Ida we did managed to taste the famous Satay Kajang even though we only got as far as the Sungai Buloh exit.


Despite it being a super short n impromptu trip and no shopping time whatsoever, it was truly a wonderful weekend getaway....

BURNT OUT

Since we had an hour to spare before we met Jenny and Ruthern at Swensen's Crown Prince Hotel after work yesterday, we popped into Challenger @ Funan to have a look see at the X-box games they had. Luckily for me EA was having a promo 2nd X-box game at 10 bucks less so my dearest DON gave in to my hints of getting two games at once. Together with some computer accesorries and some PC softwares, we walked away with quite an armful of stuff. A real shopping treat!!!


Burnout 3: Takedown is seriously the best game we have ever played. Its a racing game like no other where you get points for crashing your car, especially if you also crash a rival's in the process. I love racing games but I'm not very good at it. Whenever I play Project Gotham Racing I always end up with a crashed up car so at least Burnout allows me to get points for my "no-skill". The graphics is wonderful and the game is easy to play. I simply LOVE IT !!!!!


The Urb:Sims in the city is a tad dissapointing. The PC one is so much more fun at once glance. But I've yet to explore all parts of the game so who know's I might end up as addicted to this one as I used to on the PC.


And yes!! finally we got our 2nd controller. Now we can play multiplayer games. No doubt my nieces and nephews would be the one most excited about this. Now they can compete among their cousins whenever they come over.


Dinner with Jenny and her hubby was simply lovely. We both brought our wedding albums so we had a fantastic time going over the photos. And we brought our Paris honeymoon photos too. Jenny and hubby ooohed and aaahed over the Paris photos so much so they are planning their next vacation to Europe. hehehe. We adjourned our tete-a-tete to their lovely place at Klang Lane, a mere 10 mins from Orchard Rd. How lovely to have a place so near town although they have to bear the "aroma" and noise of Serangoon Area and its inhabitants. And they have a marine fish tank, something The Don and I plan to have someday. But hearing Jenny and Ruthern explain the intricacies of maintaining one and the high set up costs looks like it won't be so soon. But we loved looking at their marine fish, especially the cute little shrimp.


Time was definitely too short for us to catch up so we adjourned it to Sunday, this time at our place for lunch. It's sure great to meet old friends and to find that both our spouses get along famously as well.

We reached home close to eleven and even though we could barely open our eyes by then, we just had to have a test-run of the games, hehe. And this morning, we contemplated taking the day off just to have our fill of Burnout again. But alas....

Dun Leave Home Without It

I need some of that memory enhancement product. I am so forgetful these days I must be like an old lady. I accidentally left my ATM card at home this morning and was horrified to know that I didn't have a single dollar note in my wallet. And it was one hour to lunchtime. What's a girl to do?

Called The Don to ask if he would kindly go home to take my ATM card for me (since he does go home in the afternoons) but instead my knight-in-shining-Lancer sped to my rescue with his spare cash and his ATM card too. I vaguely remember a gentle warning as he handed me his ATM card but I dun remember his words exactly, hehehe.

My colleagues who overheard my frantic conversation with hubby started conspiring to kidnap my hubby. hahahaha HANDS OFF GIRLS!!!!!!! HE'S MINE !!!!!!!

Haywired!!!

When we first acquired our home, before we actually got the bedrooms, the kitchen and the living areas of the house ready, we got the study ready first. The Don wired up the study and networked all the PCs and laptops that we have. (4 computers for two people, how typical of a couple in the IT industry) We did consider having wireless installed but decided against it as since The Don sometimes work from home, it is important to confine his working area to one room otherwise, my workaholic husband will end up eating his dinner with his laptop next to him.

But suddenly, last night when we had guests and both of us needed to use the internet, the imperfections of our arrangements suddenly came to light. We were in dire need of wireless technology. Suddenly, I envisioned surfing while I have my nightly leisurely bath or reading an e-book on the bed on late weekday mornings. WE NEED WIRELESS!!!!!


On a diff note, its the "stuff-your-face" season this month and next. We've got a whole list of events and occasions lined up. And this means food, food and more food!!!! First up, our twice-monthly office lunch today was at the same-old same-old fav haunt of Cafe Vienna. Despite my protests of just being there recently with The Don, the other colleagues reasoned that they hardly get a chance to dine there. So off we went... Next on the list, a reunion with my old schoolmate Jenny n her hubby hubby, followed by a bbq with the usual suspects and then The Don's sec class reunion. A choc buffet for me and the girls are in the works too. Looks like it's gonna be one gastronomic event after another in the month of April. Foood.. Food... and more Foood.........

Let's see... I have close to 4Gb on my Dell PC at home, another 1Gb on The Don's and about 1.5Gb on the lappie. None on the company's 2 computers. I'm a good employee!!

Speedy Gonzales

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Kuantan. We scrapped the idea of Cherating and spent the entire weekend visiting relatives all over Kuantan instead. Lucky we brought the wedding album so it was "Jalan Pengantin" all over again. (3 mths and we're still not done with it yet!!)


But the highlight of the whole trip must have been the car ride. The Don could not test his machine on our way up as the roads were quite bumpy and the low profile of the car made it hard to swerve and avoid the pitholes but on the way to Temerloh from Kuantan we tried the new Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (West Coast Highway) and the new n smooth surface became our circuit. The Don clocked 200Km/hr effortlessly. I hardly even felt it save for the whirring noise of the engine. It was only when I glanced at the speedometer, saw the needle almost touching the 200 mark when I tapped The Don on his thigh and reminded him we had three kids at the back seat. (my cousins) And u noe what the kids were doing ? They were sleeping at 200km/hr!!! That was how stable the car was. No tremors whatsoever. The kids were tired out after standing almost half the journey with their heads sticking out the sun roof and waving to my uncle in the Toyota Avanza behind us. Needless to say, we reached our destination a good 20 mins before the Avanza arrived.

Looks like getting a sports car will be next on The Don's agenda.

Off we go.......again

This time to Kuantan. Now, surely by now u'd know we'd never give up a long weekend to go for a short getaway rite? (although I'll be missing out on the OG and Metro & Tangs members' sale and also the Metro Warehoue sale !! *sob* sob*) We're off to my fav uncle's and weather & tide permitting, a night or two in Cherating. The word out is that the water has been quite choppy in recent days so if its true, I guess we'll have to forgo Cherating for the next visit. Otherwise, its surf's up time baby !!!!!..........

And guess what we wil be driving up to Kuantan in??? The Don's best friend's sporty Honda. (Miss Jayz..the same one ur hubby rescued them from at the causeway but it's all fixed up now) They'll be exchanging cars for the weekend and my gawd!!! I love the car!!!!


With a sun roof and sports seats I feel like I'm an exra in the movie Fast & Furious 3. (or maybe 'Fast & In Fear'??) It's like I'm in a racing circuit whenever I'm in the car. It goes like Vrooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm...........
I thought The Don was already driving like the wind in our Lancerlot but give him a Turbo car and he drives like a hurricane. I just hope there wun b any Malaysian Pak Hajis on the road tonight.

Great Timing

Last night, the man from the cable company came to install our very own cable tv. Since we moved in, we have been "illegally" using my bro-in-law's decoder. And finally, embarassment finally caught up with us, and we decided to get our own. When the technician came, we were surprised to see he brought with him the digital box instead fo the normal one. We remember turning down the offer for a digital tier. Attempts to get through the cable hotline was like waiting for snow in Singapore so we accepted and signed for it anyway.

We only learnt later that there was a special promo of free upgrade for new subscribers of value packs. Free digital set top for as long as we were subscribing to the cable tv company. How nice !



The pic quality is really good and the remote has cool functions too. And with the Movie Lovers package we took, we will have 3 movie channels to pick and choose from. Looks like we wun be hitting the theaters for a while. And now, if you'll excuse me, I wanna rush home and grab that remote before The Don does!!!

A Lovely Surprise

As I walked into the house and entered our bedroom last night, a wondrous sight greeted me. On the bed was a bouquet of red roses and a lovely card.


Ooohhhhh absolutely heart melting !!! Especially since it wasn't for any special occasion. I'm in luuurrrvvee!!!!!!!!
